I'm a new member to the Episcopal church and have wanted my own BCP. This ended up being everything I wanted it to be. It's about the same size as my travel bible so it is easy to bring along with me and the print isn't overly small until you get to the historical documents in the back. The only thing that would make it better would be a zippered binding to help preserve the pages but all in all, I am very pleased with it. It includes a section at the beginning for Baptism, Confirmation and Marriage and two bookmarks. It's a really beautiful book and the pictures really don't do it justice.

When I recently became a member of the Episcopal Church, I decided to purchase a personal copy of the Book of Common Prayer (BCP). I like everything about this wonderful book. It contains all of the Church’s liturgical prayers, including two rites of the Holy Eucharist, the Daily Office, and prayers for many special occasions. It also contains the complete Book of Psalms, and a list of Bible readings for every day of the year. I use my BCP primarily for my morning and evening prayers.My BCP measures about 7¾” x 5½ “x 1¾,” so it is a perfect size for me. It has a durable cloth-over-board hard cover that feels very solid in my hands. The binding appears to be sewn rather than glued, which makes it more durable and allows me to lay it flat when opened. The paper is smooth but not glossy, and of sufficient weight to make it reasonably wrinkle- and tear-resistant. The text is set in a font that’s very crisp, clear, and easy to read. The book’s page edges are not gilded, and there are no marker ribbons.I am very pleased with my new Book of Common Prayer. Although it is not a substitute for the Bible, which is the cornerstone of my Christian faith, it is a very useful guide for me in my daily prayer and meditation. Highly recommended.

I have two Kindle versions of the BCP, both the one by Episcopal Church and Christian Miracle Foundation Press (EC for short) as well as the one by Church Publishing (CP). I feel like they each have pros and cons, and I'm happy to have both. I'm placing this same review in both locations.I prefer the formatting in the CP; it's a bit cleaner. However, the EC includes the page numbers which, while it can be disruptive while reading, certainly helps me to find a particular page quickly.The Table of Contents in the CP is short and easy to navigate while the one in the EC is very long and takes forever to get through. So the CP TOC will get you to a general area of the book, while the EC TOC will get you to exactly the spot that you want. I don't use the TOC often because I just bookmark all the main spots that I want to get to quickly.One thing that I love about the EC is that in the Daily Office Lectionary, the Psalms readings are hyperlinked to the Psalter, making it very easy to move back and forth between the two sections of the book.Both books occasionally crash the Kindle app, but it does seem like the CP version does it more often.If I had to choose only one (which, realistically, I should have), it would be the EC version. I find that its pros outweigh its cons, and it's less than a third of the price of the CP version.

Paging is different than the original book, which creates problems. Page numbers are an important reference during the course of Episcopal servicces.

This book will be useful to Christians of many denominations especially those that celebrate Holy Communion (Eucharist) regularly and have traditional Christian observances like Ash Wednesday and the like. It is probably particularly appropriate for Methodists, Lutherans, Episcopalian, Catholic, Orthodox and Anglicans. The majority of the book is or comes from scripture. Much of the language and material from the original book of Common Prayer in 1549 has obviously been updated although the original statements are included. Many of the prayers are particularly thoughtful---see Prayer for the Church # 7 page 816. The copy I received is nice quality blue leather, two ribbon markers, quality sewn binding and gold gilt page edge.

Perfect for my moments of quiet contemplation and prayer. As an Anglican, I was given a copy of 'The Book of Common Prayer' by my church's reverend at my confirmation at age 15, back in 1995. She had written a short prayer inside and I used and cherished that copy greatly over the years, even to this day. Although I still have it for sentimental reasons, I purchased this new copy because it has nice, larger print and can handle more daily use of wear and tear. I hope to continue to use both for decades to come, and hopefully, pass both on to any future children I may have.

For me, this is the only version of the 1979 BCP to own. Excellent binding, and the pages lie flat. Also, the print size is perfect for anyone of any age.

Terribly disappointed and hope to get my purchase price refunded. This ebook freezes frequently, and apparently the psalter is not available at all. Navigation system is next to worthless. It would have been so helpful to have, in order to lighten the load. Bah humbug.

The reader will actually get more than they bargained for, since Malcolm could have titled the book "Anti-Nietzsche, Anti-Heidegger, Anti-human, Anti-Buddha, and Sub-human Corridors".Please read the 2 star review by Jeffrey Rubard titled "Let's get small". One must genuinely confront this kind of review to fully "get-beyond" Nietzsche. The 2 star review is insightful and cutting. The phrase "The world isn't really like that" is probably a better critique of Western speculation mania than any academic philosopher could deliver...whether the world is actually simpler or more complex or more chaotic or more biological or more psychological or humane or insane...these are all possible inroads for critiques of Nietzsche.Jeffrey Rubard is on to something when he postulates a plurality may exist beyond the mere Nietzche/anti-Nietzsche dichotomy...reading anything in terms of its opposite actually binds you to the former and makes your critique dependent upon all the insights and errors of the original system...think Christian/anti-christian....if one reads Christianity through the lens of the Satanic Bible for instance, this is just contrarian departure which remains fastened in some sense to the dogma one was trying to root out or see beyond...but then again, if the "Anti-" elements of an ideology remain unspoken, perhaps this too is a stage of realization which is a means for eventually "getting beyond" this or that interpretation of things. Jeffrey Rubard would have us skip this exciting essay by Malcolm Bull, saying, "Please don't buy this book, you are better than that..." But honestly, I do not know what is better or worse or what it is I am or am not...I am still on my way...I am still listening to new voices on all sides...I am still liberal about who I hear and who I allow myself to endure. When anyone whatsoever tells me to stay away from something or not buy something on behalf of some half-hearted outrage or moral timidity, I am half ready to take their word for it, but i am also half ready to smash their face into a wall if they have mislead me and tried to castrate my autonomy for embracing the world in ever new and different ways.Malcolm Bull has offered me years of scholarship, diligence to the material and an authentic confrontation with a great many wonderful thinkers. I refuse to let a somewhat inauthentic and cheap dismissal, half a page in length, dissuade me from thinking and growing alongside the confrontation of what is new to me. I have not stated I agree or disagree with Bull's reading...but I will state that I have felt a great surge of creativity and insight in having confronted Bull's reading of Nietzsche. His comments on Heidegger alone are already a pearl of great value to me...and Bull does not shy away from confronting the Western Bias or Fascist problems created by certain readings of Nietzsche or Heidegger. Malcolm Bull responsibly looks at the issues from many sides, challenging and educating us as to more nuance and paradox. I do not see it as a joke. I see this book as a thought experiment. Malcolm Bull seems perfectly serious in entertaining absurd or weird notions...that some readers might find him ambiguous at times is part of the danger in doing a thought experiment. Accepting that the author might at times display a sense of humor does not mandate we classify the entire book as a joke...the book is erudite not absurd. Malcolm Bull is not a disciple of Nietzsche. Malcolm Bull is a unique person with unique thoughts and I thank him for sharing these with us.Nietzsche is worthy of critique. Nietzsche is worthy of new interpretations and departures. A passionate departure is worth more than a rote foot shuffling in the old ruts. For me, the meditative circling of compassion between Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Buddhism and Christianity were particularly interesting, especially when the author goes beyond the human toward the ecology of animal experience or human sympathy for the animal experience and its imposed, non-linguistic silence...here is compassion confronting the non-anthropocentric...the limit scenario of Nihilism.Lastly, after fully and wholeheartedly endorsing this book, I would return you to the 2-star review by Jeffrey Rubard, ask you to confront what Jeffery has stated and make your own judgment. For me, the clue to getting beyond this book came from Arthur Waley's collection of 170 Chinese poems (a book loved by expatriate writer Paul Bowles)...in its introduction, Waley compares the Chinese culture to the European one...the Chinese have less interest in epics and romances...why? Perhaps it has something to do with Western speculation driven to manic excess, while on the other side of the world, the Chinese have a emphasized calm individual reflection and friendship in place of solitary heroism...not a Prometheus/Lucifer/Christ archetype, but instead, the gay genius of a cosmopolitan man like Su Tung Po, or the cheerful drunken, meditating and laughing Nihilism of Chang Tzu. Such hearts would immediately see the excess of western heroism and call it for what it is, tragic and misguided.

I have been a reader of Nietzsche for many years. When a friend told me about Malcolm Bull's new book, I immediately thought it sounded intriguing. One thing to say straight-away: This is not an attack on Nietzsche, per se. It is a highly-intellectual argument about the nature of nihilism (and democracy...how similar are they?) and how we should read Nietzsche in order to move beyond him--to new dimensions of thought.Malcolm Bull is a fantastic writer--he writes with control and clarity. He cites many, MANY sources and discusses his interpretation of his citations (it's like he took a college-level writing course!). The wealth of information is incredible for a book that is slightly under 200 pages. If you have a slight background in Nietzsche (or Heidegger), it will be beneficial.I only had two main complaints:1.) His interpretation of Nietzsche is built, in my estimate, primarily from readings of Will to Power. I have never read much of this final book, but it was published posthumously, so I am always a little hesitant about the content. Especially because it seemed to support a rather 'gross' reading of Nietszche that is very hard to get from him if you read everything BUT Will to Power (e.g. advocating eugenics). Ultimately, I do not think Bull's argument suffers much from his interpretation--most of his argument still remains provocative and intellectually-compelling. However-----2.) Bull seems a little afraid of his own thesis. If you've read a bit about the book, then I'm sure you are intrigued by the terms "reading like a loser" or "subhumanism." Well, these are certainly the cornerstone of Bull's fascinating prescription for reading Nietzsche. However, he does not mention these ideas explicitly more than perhaps 10% of the book (and that's a generous estimation). His main argument gets lost a bit in the enormous survey of Heidegger and various Nietzschean philosophers.Overall, it makes for an exhilarating exercise in thinking, and I highly recommend this to anyone particularly interested in 'spacing-out' their ideas of Nietzsche. But for the more casual reader, they might be disappointed that much of the implications for Bull's nihilistic, extra-egalitarianism remain implicit at best....Yet his recommendation for society is a unique and challenging call-to-action via an ironic call-to-fail (in a very subtle sense). I look forward to seeing where Bull goes from here.P.S. People who appreciate aesthetic theory will find the Bull has done a great justice in approximating the Ubermensch's 'value-positing' and artistic-creation. The aesthetic angle of the argument was particularly brilliant.

I did everything he said and I haven't spoken to my ex in about 7 weeks and haven't seen him in 4 months and he just started calling/texting and when I finally answered he asked if he could take me on a date! I told him I wasn't available the 2 days he requested and he's moving HIS schedule to take me out. Long story short.. Gregg is right. When I told him to stop calling me (basically stringing me along) I knew I had to stick to that and not compromise, I deserve more than some consolation friendship after he broke up with me. I worked on my self esteem (daily affirmations), registered for swim lessons, lost 15 pounds and now I feel better about myself. I'm the prize, not him. I couldn't see it through the baggage. I'm determined to never be at anyone else's mercy so I worked on myself before even considering another "real" relationship. Forget your instincts and take it from a mans (Gregg) perspective. :-)

Other reviews state something like "Lots of good information" or something like that. Well I'm going to tell you how the information in this book worked: I used the techniques on two men: an ex husband (who had a girlfriend and some legal issues i didn't know about at the time) and a guy who I knew was not right for me (he was much too young for me and had a gf!). Well, the ex husband is trying to get back with me (after 3 years!) and this hot young thing is doing his best (after one year!)... so i'm still employing the techniques and will have some fun with both of them. I'm also in a current situation, where the guy i really like is still not committed and leaving his options open--this is hurting me but he will NEVER know that. I'm about to employ Gregg's techniques on him!Btw, when i first read this series, I emailed Gregg and he emailed me some terrific, free advice. It is clear that he knows his stuff AND really enjoys helping people.

If "he isn't that into you" in the first place, forget about him because these tactics won't work, not permanently anyway. And a real man of a certain age will see right through these cheap tricks and you'll just embarrass yourself. I agree that women should go no-contact and get their lives together, but they should do it for themselves and not to get some man who probably isn't even worth it. If a man disappears and/or dumps you once, he'll do it again...and again...and again. And if he wants you back because it didn't work out with another woman, do you really want to be his second choice? That's another heartbreak just waiting to happen. It's extremely painful (I KNOW!) but better in the long run to just move on and find someone more compatible.

I just finished reading this book. My EX and I have been separated for nine weeks. We were living together and engaged. Things were rocky, but started to get better until my Father passed away April 8th. It sent me spiraling into deep depression and ups and downs. I actually was so upset one night over something so small, I asked my EX to leave. Since then, I have been a mess. My Father is gone and my fiancé as well. Reading this book and then finding the affirmations in it was like a light. I've put my EX through torture the last nine weeks. Today starts the no contact as well as building me up. I am most excited about that! Other books just tell you to get a hobby. Gregg doesn't. He tells you exactly what to do! Finally, some real advice. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is acting crazy after a break up. I fear I may have lost my EX due to my behavior, however that bad behavior stops now. Time to pull myself together with this book and start new. If my EX does come back, that would be great so long as the changes we made before my father passed still remain. (It got really bad). Thank you Gregg, starting tonight, 06/19, you have brought me out of my crazy despair and pity. I will update this review if my EX does come back. To add on, we work together. So we do "pass" each other everyday. I wonder how that will work out. Get it, read it and follow it, if only to build you up from the deep depression and despair. A must read!!!

I enjoyed reading this book. It offered me hope and a great strategy to get my ex back which is the "Goodbye Letter." You must try the "Goodbye Letter" It will trick him to come back to you...I can definitely see it working for someone that just broke up for the first time. It also gives you sound advice on ways to cope with heartbreak. If you broke up with your ex recently and want him back, I highly recommend this book. I emailed the author twice and he responds!!!!:)

I purchased and read this right after I broke things off with a guy I was seeing who started to pull away and was unable to commit to me. I felt absolutely shattered, miserable, lost, but reading the book would keep me sane and thinking with a clear head. It's comforting, like having a dating coach right by your side.I am by no means completely moved on and recovered, but it's amazing how looking at the bigger picture can bring you clarity from the situation. It's not a gimmick that tries to sell getting your ex back, but more so a guide to help you rebuild yourself, which increases the chances of him coming back. I also respect how the author, Gregg was very responsive to my email. It shows this is not just a gimmick to make money, but he is investing his time in helping women in their time of need.

Concise, to the point, and made me feel better about the situation with my ex. Gregg really writes like a friend and I appreciate that being in the hard place that I am right now. Some of his advice did hurt (I got boring - ouch!) but it's true and what I NEEDED to hear because I let my hobbies and my true self go in this relationship, a lesson I've learned and will never do again. Ex back or not I think I'm headed in the right direction changing my mind set. Thank you!

I wanted to wait before I gave my opinion about the book since I was waiting for results, so far I didn't get him back yet, but today after 3 months he came to our house and we spoke like human beings, no arguments nor complaints and this was a first!..I don't know what the outcome will be but Gregg has been present answering my emails and for that I'm extremely grateful.Wish me luck I need it! :)

From the outset, this book plunges you deep into the wonderful world that is badminton. Mark Golds managed to teach me everything there is to know about the sport, from attacking serves to smashes. Accept no substitute, Mark - former England player - teaches in a way which would get begginers into the game, but at the same time has a learning curve steep enough for experienced players to add tremedously to their game. I now know why badminton is an Olympic sport, and more to the point, what a great game it is. If you are thinking of picking up a raquet for the first time, or are closer to forever hanging it up, this book is a perfect suitor for you, and in my opinion definately deserves the coverted five stars!

I don't understand why the book deserved 5 stars (that misled my purchase), I think that it deserves 2 at most.I don't believe that it is all what Mark has to transmit us, its experience should surely be a lot richerit don't provide or describe important strokes, shots or hints (for example, what about the forearm pronation on smashes or clears). It also has, almost consecutively, repeated pictures without providing a new point of view.With determination, I don't recommend it (and I recommend Mark that don't let his name be used in such a way).

A great inside look at a great man. "An Army Of One" is an appropriate title but the reality is that Mr. Limbaugh is commander in chief for all of us conservatives. I am a child of the 60's and still believe that government is sticking it's nose too far into my business and everyone else life.

I've always been interested in Rush. Zev's book is an excellent analysis of Rush's life. Zev did his homework. He wrote about what he learned. Spending a great deal of time interviewing people including Rush, his family and friends and associates. I believe this is a more than fair assessment. it is certainly not a white wash. I enjoyed the read. This is a book that would be helpful to those who know nothing about Rush, and never listen to him, but have a poor opinion. Truth is a powerful tool.

Great book to know more of our beloved Rush. We still love him...Read it.

Interesting background on Rush and his commentary.

I've always liked Rush but no one had really written a book about his life. This book takes me on a journey of his life from his early childhood through his radio success. A most enjoyable read, especially for those who are Rush fans.

This is a very honest and fair depiction of Rush Limbaugh. The author does not suck up to Limbaugh, nor does he attempt to diminish him. Zev Chafets simply gives an honest evaluation of Rush Limbaugh's life. Politics aside (or not), it's a fascinating read.

I read this well-written and enjoyable book on my Kindle. Why? Because recently I read Chafets bio of Roger Ailes and was so riveted that I want to read more of his commentary on well-known Americans who help steer the politics in America. Based on brilliant research and face to face interviews, the author manages to look deep into Rush Limbaugh's past, present and future outlook for this country and why so many people either love him or hate him. He travels with Rush, visits his Florida home and his workplace, meets his staff and many of his friends, and also reports on Rush's missteps. No holds barred that I could discover.It's all here - Rush Limbaugh's childhood, education (or lack thereof), his friends and enemies, how he conducts his radio program, his personal and private life - all written by Chafets with sincerity and amazement! I am not a "dittohead" but I know many who are and it is impossible to have a civil conversation with them! Now I can recommend this sensible biography of a man who remains a staunch conservative and manages to greatly affect public opinion three hours daily on AM radio, all the while driving democrats and liberals crazy. Find out who his friends are and why he is so popular despite the rhetoric.Does Rush Limbaugh speak to you? Why? This is a beautifully written and moving book that discusses important issues. The decline of youth football programs may have negative consequences for youth that benefitted from them. The headlines about chronic trauma encephelopathy from playing football have outraced the science and there is much that is not known about what the effects of playing youth and high school football are on long term mental health and cognition. The currently published studies that have used population samples have not found harmful effects and even found evidence of a slight benefit perhaps because physical activity is beneficial (Deshpande SK, et al. ,2017, Association of playing high school football with cognition and mental health later in life. JAMA Neurol 74(8):909–918; Savica R, Parisi JE, Wold LE, Josephs KA, Ahlskog JE (2012) High school football and risk of neurodegeneration: A community-based study. Albert Samaha's "Never Ran, Never Will" is a page-turning wonder. Started reading and I couldn't put it down. It's a New York story, but it's an American story. If you've read Samaha's work before you'll instantly recognize his attention to detail and his natural way of captivating his audience. It's a must read for people, not just sports fans.

Samaha does a beautifully responsible job of sharing a community's story - from the compelling individuals who make up the neighborhood, to the sociopolitical forces shaping the world these kids step into. One of the best books I've read in quite some time.

I couldn't stop crying reading this book. Samaya writes about boyhood, sports, and poverty in a way that is so powerful and resonates long after the last word is read. I'm grateful for this relentless reporting, wonderful storytelling, and powerful commentary on the rise of gentrification in cities across the country.

When I started reading it, I couldn't put down the book, because I wanted to know what's next? Will the boys make it to the championship? I wanted them to. What is interesting is that it also talks about the history of Brooklyn. I finished it in 2 nights & 3 days! Written very well.

It takes a lot of courage to jump in and fight against the riptide of systemic racism, low-performing schools, familial economic strain and the lure of drugs in the East Brooklyn neighborhood of Brownsville. Chris Legree and his fellow coaches in the Mo Better Jaguar football program fight a daily battle to help young men stay the course, better themselves through sport, and hopefully escape the streets. This is the story told in Albert Samaha’s exceptional ethnographical book Never Ran, Never Will. With shrinking rosters and health concerns, Samaha’s takes a penetrating look at the value of youth football in the inner city. His balanced reporting chronicles the successes and unfortunate tragedies in the history of the football organization.The first part of the book briefly details the 2013 season, but mainly focuses on the author’s tremendous research that lays the foundation for so many important discussions in the book. One needs to know the history of Brownsville, the state of law enforcement laws in NYC, and the economics of the transitioning neighborhoods to understand the plight of these young men. From stable middle-class families, immigrant families, and broken homes, Samaha relates the lives of about a half a dozen players and three coaches. The second part of the book takes a deeper dive into the 2014 season. Told with great intensity, the reader cannot help but root for the boys to win.What struck me the most about this book was the overwhelming impression of the power of a mentor. Several studies over the last ten years have shown the considerable effect positive mentoring can have on youth. As Samaha writes: From ages 10-12, these boys “age out of innocence.” Gio, Hart, Isaiah, and Oomz are boys that need men like Chris, Esau, and Vick in their lives. These men structure their family lives and their jobs around the demands of the program, and should be lauded for that dedication.Never Ran, Never Will belongs on the shelf next to Kotlowitz’s There Are No Children Here, Wojnarowski’s The Miracle of St. Anthony, and Coyle’s Hardball. This is an important book that poses real questions about what will fill the void if football and other sports disappear from inner cities. The author cares enough to look at all the factors that affect this neighborhood, and confesses in the introduction that he is one of the people who has moved into and gentrified these neighborhoods. His honesty provides a clear view, a transparency that only comes in the most honest and dedicated of writing. Thank you to Mr. Samaha for writing about these boys and their devoted mentors.
