Michel Bruneau, P.E., P.Eng., is Professor in the Department of Civil, Structural, and Environmental Engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and an ASCE Fellow. He is a member of various AISC and CSA committees developing seismic design specifications for bridges and buildings. Dr. Bruneau has conducted extensive research on the evaluation and retrofit of existing steel structures subjected to large destructive forces. He has authored more than 400 technical publications and has received many awards for his work. Chia-Ming Uang, Ph.D., is Professor in the Department of Structural Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. A member of the AISC’s Committee on Specification and Committee on Research, he received the AISC Special Achievement Award in 2007. Dr. Uang has authored numerous articles on seismic behavior and design of steel structures. Rafael Sabelli, S.E., is a Principal and Director of Seismic Design at Walter P. Moore and Associates, Inc., and was President of the Structural Engineers Association of California from 2009 to 2010. He is a member of the AISC Task Committee on the Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings and the ASCE 7 Seismic Subcommittee. Mr. Sabelli is the coauthor of AISC Design Guide 20: Steel Plate Shear Walls as well as of numerous research papers on conventional and buckling-restrained braced frames.

This text was extremely useful in a seismic design course I took. By blending a review of current research efforts with clear design procedures, Prof Bruneau and his co-authors provide an engineering textbook different than many others. It's more than a how-to; it's more of a here's-why.The book offers aspiring and practicing engineers a thorough explanation of different frame options and understanding of their behavior. It then demonstrates how best to design each particular type of frame including design examples. At the same time, the authors make clear that there is still research to be done to better understand the behavior of steel structures under earthquake loads.I suspect this is one of those textbooks that I will reference for years to come.

I received the book, the cover was ok but the content was of the book: Structural Renovation of Buildings by Alexander Newman.

A must have for all engineers, researchers, and students interested in developing solid background in plastic design and seismic design of steel structures. Also a great reference book. Emphasis on behavior and understanding, which is they key to a great career in structural engineering.

This book was sold as a brand new book. When it arrived, the cover was completely torn off the spine.. I returned it immediately. This is quite poor

Well written book overall. The material is very clear. The only noticeable downfall so far is that the writing stile is not particularly concise and is filled with long run-on sentences at times.

Excellent reference for steel design. It has historic background about every structural sistem. The topics include: frames, braced frames: concentrically and excentrically braced and other systems.

I took AP environmental science about a year ago and this book helped me get a five!AP Environmental Science is (in my opinion) the hardest AP sciences because unlike chemistry, biology, or physics, environmental science encompasses everything that isn't chemistry, biology, or physics. That's a lot of material to learn over a short period of time! I used this book in addition to the AP Edition of Living in the Environment. For me the text book was good for learning about the subject while the Barron's book was easy to carry and use as an overview of the material. I also used it when I went on vacation before the exam and it was super helpful because it was easy to carry on and off the plain and it was good to use as a refresher to remember and review the material before the exam. I also liked how there were lots of space to write notes in the margins and the diagrams were also helpful.I'm undecided on whether I would recommend this book to someone who was only taking the exam. I thought there was a lot of information in the book but it was more of an overview. To do well on the exam, you need to know a lot about all the different areas and have a true understanding of all of them. To do well on the test and only use this book, you'd need to read about all of the different subjects and use other materials like the ones from college board.But overall, I would recommend this book to help taking an AP Environmental Science class and test. I actually gave my copy of my book to a friend who was a year younger than me. I also bought this book for my sister who's taking the class this year. She's already started using this book for her very long summer assignment and she's said that it has helped her already!

Paired with the Barron's AP Env Sci book, this was a life-saver for my 9th grader. She's at one of the top high schools in the nation, supposedly, and we discovered 11 days before the AP exam her teacher hadn't covered anything that wasn't strictly science - legislation, policy, important people, etc. After a year-long class, quizzing with these, and reading the book and studying it, she felt very well prepared for her exam.

I used this book and got a 4 on my ap exam. It had everything about anything on the topic which is why I did not like the book too much. It had too many specifics on each topic which made it take too too long to study the material but it still was helpful at times. To make this book more worth of your time, I suggest to buy this book early in the school year and use it to study for each of your tests. There are also practice questions after each section that are very useful.

Daughter loves them, says they are the exact diagrams used in her APES class. Unlike some other flashcards we've bought for other subjects, these are nicely tabbed so very easy to quickly find the section you need to study. Great find.

Great book! Could easily be used to teach this course inside of a classroom. However I find it is actually more detailed then the actual test will be. The practice tests as far as multiple choice are great, however I would advise getting short answer practice off of the College Board Website.

My son said this really helped him to study for his AP test this year. He's in 10th grade. He said he really liked the practice tests. I will definitely purchase more of these study guides, love the CD-ROM extra study.

A ton of misspelled words and wrong answers. Some have the same answer choice twice. Very irritating, especially when studying for a major exam.

This box helps a LOT on AP Environmental Science. Really recommend this book. I use this very day in class.
