This is, by far, one of the best resources for any new teacher. I buy this for any of my new teachers so they get an understanding of the importance of classroom management and classroom climate. Though some of the suggestions may seem elementary, a discerning new teacher can learn all types of strategies to start a school year off right. I cannot reccommend this book enough. I am grateful for the authors and their continued support of their text.

This is very helpful for beginning teachers and those looking to refresh their classroom management skills in preparation for a new year. I bought this and The Classroom Management book by the same authors and preferred that book over this one.

This book was a required text for a class I am currently taking. I am a junior in college and I'm pursuing an education degree. This book has so much great information in it that I have found so useful. It is also actually an entertaining read unlike so many books on the same topic. I ended up finishing the whole thing way before I needed to for class. I definitely plan on keeping this for when I graduate because it is something I will return to again and again.

Page 7 is missing 10 lines of text. Other pages could be missing text too; I don't know. I got fed up my "new but obviously defective" copy and checked out a copy from my school library. Other than that, its a great book!

As a first year teacher I found this book super helpful. At university, they don’t teach us how to begin the year in our classroom, especially developing a classroom management plan or implementing routines and procedures. This book goes into depth for those of us that have a million questions. I highly recommend this book for any educator.

I ordered this used and the dvd was of a concert, not the one guaranteed to come with it. ): I couldn’t do my project for school and didn’t find out until too late to return the item.

This book is excellent for anybody that needs a real explanation of the judicial system in the US, especially if you are a foreign trained attorney. I really loved all the explanations and details into scenarios and all you need to know to go to court as an interpreter.

Excellent theory and practice guide for every aspiring or experienced legal/court interpreter. Definitely, the most comprehensive and authoritative publication in the field.

VERY GOOD

To say that this volume is comprehensive is an understatement. The authors have done a masterful job of covering the entire spectrum revolving around court interpretation. This not only includes those elements which are particularly germane to the field, but the backstory, tangential elements, and possible areas of improvement. As such the book is overwhelming.Anyone who picks up the book to read it from cover to cover is doing the book a disservice. That is not its designed purpose. It is a reference book for anyone who is remotely connected to the legal system and, in particular, to the interpreting world within that system. Each chapter, and some sections, are designed as stand-alone treatises on the subject matter covered. This allows the student, interpreter, or legal system employee to find and understand a particular area of interest without having to wade through hundreds of pages of superfluous, to their particular issue, material. (The Table of Contents is massive for easy access to particular subject matter.)As such is should be in every legal library and at the fingertips of anyone who works in the legal system, especially those related to the area of interpreting.Although designed for the world of interpreting within the legal system, given its comprehensive nature it is an excellent resource for anyone interested in the field of interpreting in general. The authors systematically explain the various methods, elements, and venues of the interpreting world. They analyze the issues most critical to each of these areas and contrast them with the needs of the legal system. In doing so, they create a tremendous base for those who are interested in interpreting, not just interpreting in the court system.Therefore, even those who are interpret or intend to interpret in other venues should strongly consider having this resource available for their perusal as needed – and it will be needed.

I think the greatest charm of this novel is its intimate and richly detailed look into the life of a geisha and that of Chiyo's journey of becoming one. From the first page you get sucked in completely. But as detailed and well written the story is, I couldn't help but feel a lack of interest towards the characters. The character development of all the characters are so black and white. They are portrayed as either good or bad. For instance, the Hutsumomo character is depicted as simply evil (with no insight into her past or any exceptional reason to why she hates Chiyo), so much to the point that she seems more like a cartoonish imaginary figure than a real character. Mameha seems nothing more than just the good Samaritan, and Chiyo is of course all good. In other words, the characters are just simplistic. You won't get much out of these characters, they are what they are. As for the ending, I found it disappointing because it was abrupt (an anti-climax perhaps?) and just too Hollywood. I thought Chiyo's sole mission in life to reunite with Chairman because of his simple little act of kindness (all he did was notice her and buy her a snow cone..) was a bit naive, and at the end, lackluster and pointless. That's not love, just a silly and ridiculous admiration. I thought majority of the men in the novel, including Chairman, were more like pawns than real characters. There's nothing to love or to hate about them. There's no depth or insight into their characters. They are just, well, there.Overall, the book is more about rich detail of a different culture (from the author spending years of research), and wonderful narration, which I feel is the main thing that made this book such a success and inevitably attractive. But the story and plot is simple and highly predictable. Sure it takes place in an exotic setting, but it doesn't necessarily make it any more less or different than if it took place in a brothel in Paris or a strip club in New York City. There is no surprises, cliff hangers, or anything that will make you gasp with disbelief. But it will immerse you into a beautiful, if not harsh, culture that makes this book truly worth reading.

No, really, it is. I will read this book nearly every year for the rest of my life.The story of Saiyuri is a very detailed one, and how she came to be a geisha. The (fictional) biographical novel of a geisha is definitely a wonderful read. I love all things Japanese, and this book is a great insight into the world, as it is well researched and well written. In some places it is like a story, and in others it is like reading an encyclopedia of Japanese culture, and the two mix so well together that it is almost unnoticeable. The characters are believable, and each ones follows their path in life and you know where most of them land. That is definitely good story-telling.Moreover, the book is also going to draw you into a life story you will want to know about, even if you saw the movie first (like me). believe me, the movie has nothing on the book. It only gives you a visual for what the world looks like. The true depth of the book is much deeper, stronger and more drawn out in a way that the reader will find most enjoyable.

Unfortunately, I admit I haven't read this book in twenty or so years and I imagined it reading the same. I couldn't have been more wrong! It's so much more heartbreaking, intriguing and entertaining than when I was younger. There was so much I thought I understood back then that now I appreciate.

Recently I watched the movie again, and then read about it, and was intrigued to read a man had written it AND it was his first book. So of course I had to Edward the book. It was even better than the movie. Interesting to me that the geishas voice changed, matured, even as she added years to her life. I was richly blessed by the reading of this book. Thank you, Mr. Golden, for writing it.

This was the first book selected by the book club I was invited to join at the start of the year. From the first page I was hooked on the beautiful evocative descriptions of people, places and situations. The story is essential the life story of a little girl from a poor fishing village in Japan who finds herself taken to the Trisha district known as Gion , where she overcomes loss of family and the loss of the life of her childhood, and learns the art of being a geisha. We hear the story from Sayuri at the age of 80 years or so, remembering her life and how she came to be where she is today.As I said the descriptions alone are enough to make this a worthwhile read. But the story itself is also full of schemes and intrigue, and shadowy unknown benefactors that influence the course of the protagonist's life with small actions that have tremendous impact. It is also a story of true love, as well as a story about the strength and struggles of women in Japan . It allows the reader to become part of a different culture and way of being...and of appreciating that the two layers of Japanese culture: the surface story as illustrated by the beauty and grace of the geishas versus the broken, harsh, and grimy circumstances that produce the geishas. All of this combines to give a thoroughly absorbing reading experience that leaves one feeling a little richer inside for having completed the book.It was a great book to start off my year and I would recommend it to anyone interested in appreciating gender and culture issues from a different perspective., and to any reader who appreciates a well written tale.

I have a really hard time finding books my 8 yr old daughter will read, she really struggles with reading but she loves these books and has devoured them! She’s read all the purrmaid books and loves them. It’s the only thing we could find that will encourage her to read at all. She also loves to tell me every little detail. It’s somewhat excruciating but I’m really happy she’s reading and comprehending. Thanks Purrmaids!

Granddaughter loves Cats, Unicorns and Mermaids. These chapter books are so cute and just right for her in the 1st grade.

Only complaint is lack of pictures! Challenging to keep a six year old entertained for an entire chapter.

I go this to help prepare for a honeymoon in St. Lucia. It's a pretty standard travel book, and if it's the only one you get you'll be alright. It's a little light on St. Lucia, and doesn't have anything you cant read through Trip Advisor or Oyster websites.I'd recommend getting the Lonely Planet guide over this.

I got this right before I went to Barbados in late September. The book seemed to be fairly up to date. The book was small and compact, convenient for traveling, and easy to read. One negative is the lack of photos and visual aids in the book. There are a lot of more helpful and colorful pamphlets and brochures for free once you arrive at Barbados airport. We ended up using the travel office at our resort hotel to get more information and purchase tickets for excursions. I do want to pass along these free pamphlets and brochures to the professional travel guide companies though!Free internet sites with travelers' opinions are more informative for getting more up-to-date frank feedback, especially for rare destinations, such as Barbados. Of course, the points of views may be swayed and tend to be a place for people to vent about bad experiences. This book is not too pricey, so I did not expect too much. Unlike Planet Lonely and other competitors, I believe that Fodor's intention for the "In Focus" series to be "starter" travel guides to help beginners learn a few basic things about the destination. Let me put it this way, it's better than nothing if you are a planner with spontaneity not being your strong suit. Have fun!PS By the way, I did my first all-inclusive vacation at Barbados, which reduced the stress about having to find a place to eat and things to do every day. Of course, we wanted to get away from the resort hotel sometimes, so the book was one way to spark our interest to get more information on particular excursions.

Purchased book for travel to St Lucia. Normally I prefer Lonely Planet, but couldn't find an LP guide specific to STL. When I travel, I avoid resorts and all inclusive and prefer to get off the beaten path. I felt this book focused very much on resorts and didn't offer very good tips to truly experience the country.

All of the information in this book can be found for free on the Fodors website, but I am the kind of guy who needs the physical book to really soak up the information. It is chalk full of helpful tips and information about the islands. I would definitely recommend. It has been very useful for planning my upcoming honeymoon. I wish it was a little wider though, so each page had a bit more information.

I'm a Fodor's fan and when traveling find these books very useful. As always, the book was spot on with lodging and dining suggestions, however, the section on Barbados was missing some vital information on recreational activities. Certain things can only be done on certain days, and need to be booked well ahead of time. We arrived on a Friday and decided to take it easy the first few days and wanted to take a sunset cruise during the week, unfortunately the book didn't mention that there is no mid week option. Guess we'll just have to go back :)

This is an excellent book, as are all the Fodor's guides. The only thing that may be a disappointment is if you already own Fodor's Caribbean and are looking for more in depth coverage of specific islands, as I was. There is some additional material here and some additional pictures, however much of it is a rehash of what is in Fodor's Caribbean. That said, if you don't already own Fodor's Caribbean it is an excellent guide.

Bought this for my daughter and son-in-law for our trip to St Lucia. It was very helpful for all of us as we made our way around the island. Pointed out local features (bakery, rum distillery, etc.) that we may not have found otherwise.Now, we just have to use the Barbados part!

I'm not sure if this is unique to the Kindle edition, but I found that this book lacked in content from what I am accustomed to from a Fodor travel guide. I was expecting a significant amount of thorough travel tips to both Barbados and St. Lucia as well as reviews of hotels, restaurants, and other attractions. I have since ordered the Rough Guides to Barbados and St Lucia, hoping that the content is significantly more thorough than Fodors Kindle edition.

If you're a huge Division fan like me, you should buy this comic and help support the growth of this IP. If you don't have any knowledge about the game The Division, then I would steer clear of this comic and recommend the book, Tom Clancy's The Division: New York Collapse. It provides great world building into the story around The Division. That aside, this comic felt short and lacking. I would have liked some more details about the aftermath from where the game left off. Instead it simply throws you into the point of view of this new character and we're just supposed to care about him. I'll buy the rest of the series just because it's part of The Division, but I wasn't too satisfied with the content.

Brilliant storyline and beautifully animated, but too short. Looking forward to the next issue. Hopefully it will be a bit longer.

Pretty good start, good art and coloring. A little... dramatic to be honest. More Days of Our Lives with guns than Die Hard but I think it'll be a good story. Looking forward to the second one.

Really leaves you thirsty for more and I love it. Provides really good insight as to what's going on in the world outside the games. I cannot wait to read more.

I love the D1 and stoked for D2, might fill the gap for the next few days with reading material. Story line and all is good.

I like that the writing is true to what I know of The Division storyline, I got to see Faye Lau, talks about the orange watches and touches on what they represent. I wasn’t blown away by the writing but it wasn’t bad for sure and this is a first issue which is always saddled with introductory setting and character development. Second and third issues are where the pow bang boom are usually. I do wish the locations and landmarks were more familiar to a player or a reader of Manhattan Collapse. Also I’ve considered that this is my first digital comic I grew up reading them out of bags and boards with the ink smell so I’m adjusting. I’m a fan of The Division and Manhattan Collapse the book so I automatically love this work. The cover was great and the contents are definitely enough to make me want more. Looking forward to the next few issues.
