I have mixed feelings about this cookbook. On the positive side, the book is very beautiful and the recipes that I've tried are very good. I also like alot of the other "non-recipe" information that they've included in the book. And the recipes build upon one another so you feel like you are learning how to cook authentic Mexican food all from scratch. It's kind of cool.On the negative side, these are NOT authentic Chevy's recipes. Most of these recipes are inspired by dishes served at Chevy's, instead of the actual food from the menu. I worked at Chevy's for years, and I was really hoping for their original salsa. Chevy's salsa is the best that I've ever had, so I was very disappointed when it was missing from the book. There are other salsa recipes, but not the original salsa that is served alongside chips with each meal at Chevy's. Additionally, as other reviewers have stated, these recipes have a lot of ingredients and a lot of steps. They are not designed for a weeknight cook who wants to throw something on the table in 30 minutes or less. They are definitely worth the effort, but they do take some time and money.

You will LOVE this cookbook! Recipes are so delicious! Literally from-scratch enchiladas, beans (about the most flavorful recipe I have ever tried), ranch dip, BBQ sauce, fajitas, you name it...we have several favorites, however: the Chipotle Roast Chicken and the Pineapple Salsa are simply outstanding. If you like spicy, try the Tomatillo Salsa! We have used this book so often that I can't say enough good things about it!

Not the salsa they served in the restaurant... very disappointing. No recipe for tortillas.

I was so excited when I found this cookbook. Since moving to KY I have missed so many of the restaurants and cuisines we used to enjoy when we lived in northern California, and Chevy's is among those. One of my favorite dishes at Chevy's was the Charro Beans and that recipe is included in this cookbook. Unfortunately, since this cookbook arrived I have not had time to try any of the recipes yet due to sudden illness. Just by browsing through the recipes I can tell they will be good based on my experience cooking for over 35 years. As soon as I am able I am going to be whipping up some Chevy's Fresh Mex dishes for my family! Can't wait until I can start cooking from it, and will update my review as to success/failure/authenticity/ease/etc, of recipes at that time. The cookbook also arrived very quickly and in perfect condition.

When the restaurant teetered on the brink of going away, the smart people behind it put together this book to perpetuate their wonderful food forever. I've made several recipes in the book and it works off of the priniciple of using several key base items to build new dishes. The roasted chicken was phenomenal! While it will never taste exactly as in the restaurant--due to different brands and suppliers of ingredients--the dishes were easy to follow and delicious.

My wife and I like to eat at Chevy's. When I saw the cookbook I was put off because so often this type of cook book is just a hype for the chain. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the book is not just a hype but actually feature almost all of their recipes. The best thing for me is the fact they show you how to make the base recipes that are then put together in combinations to make their food. I've make at least 10 items from this cookbook and we have enjoyed them a lot.

I only made steak and chicken fajitas so far but they where great. I also use the homemade tortilla recipe given in the book. You wont' believe the difference in taste compared to store bought ones. I also bought a tortilla press from amazon that I'm very happy with. The only problem with the fajitas is I can't stop eating them .

Try the beans and the guacamole! Definitely wonderful dishes! I've tried many of the recipes and they're all wonderful and very easy to accomplish. This book will definitely ramp up your Mexican dinner nights! Strongly recommend it for fun and delicious meals!

I found it so good that we ordered one for our office too. So many books do not show the insects except as adults.. sometimes we need to know what they look like before they reach adulthood. This book tells us that. Seems to be a good reference book.

Really helpful, but double check the families of the insects. Some have changed since the 1940s. Use it to get to family and then double check that it exists.

An excellent book at an excellent price. Great illustrations.

The only thing good I can say about this cookbook is that it contains recipes. The writing and edting, or should I say lack of editing, is atrocious. I looked at five recipes that I thought I might be interested in. Each one was missing words in one of more steps. Sometimes they weren't crucial to completing the recipe, but sometimes they were. I purchased this to save some time since my foray in to Instant Pot cooking first lead me to searching online for recipes...definitely not time saving. Very disappointed. Would not recommend.

If you want a basic cookbook that reads like a poorly written children's book, you’ve found it. It has so many errors that I have to believe it’s self published, with no thought to pay for editorial services. It honestly feels like it was written by someone in elementary school, or an ESL person. I have no trust in the recipes as they are missing steps, and incomplete sentences. Kindle version might be worth it at $2.99, but not the paperback. I gave this book two stars, as the book deserves a star for at least having recipes in it.I will be refunding this book purchase, and not buying anything that Beverly Jones releases in the future.

Instructions for the Instant pot are well defined and easy to follow.The revipes are barely mediocre. Many ingredients I've never heard of and Bo mention of substitutes. Unusual recipes, but no basic ones such as Chicken soup from scratch, beef pot roast, spaghetti sauce, beef barley soup, etc. Not many American common dishes.

I am a beginner in cooking with the Instant Pot so I was hoping for some exciting recipes and tips on using the Instant Pot. I won't go so far as to express complete disappointment in the book but I was truly hoping for better.

My niece and newphew received an iPot for Christmas. The recipes were essential to using the pot. They send out pictures of the recipe and the finished dinner on Instagram"

the book itself is small but the quality is fantastic. there wasn't a single photograph in this book that I have seen before.i have been a Biltmore fanatic for 40 years . I first saw pictures of the library at age 13 and hope to get there someday. this is a book I will cherish.

A much appreciated addition to my Biltmore collection. Similar in format to the earlier Rickman book but with some photos I've never seen before. Repeats some photos from Rickman but not too many. Highly recommend for the serious Biltmore enthusiast.

I practice and teach medicine in a large university system and study and advocate for health care system change. It is all too easy, confronted by the numerous failings of health care in the US and the increasing attention to technological remedies such as the electronic health record and system redesign at the macro level like accountable care organizations (ACO's), to become overwhelmed and paralyzed. Hofer Gittel's book reminds us that, at their heart, systems are people and their relationships. Arrangements like ACO's are simply that, arrangements of people and functions, and EHR's are tools to facilitate the communication of information among people. Her clear exposition of the connection between the quality of relationships between health professionals and the outcomes they produce for their patients not only makes perfect sense, it points the way to improvements we clinicians can work towards right now - improvements in our working relationships that will be necessary regardless of the ultimate fate of the Affordable Care Act, the roll-out of health information technology nationally, and other matters of policy and politics that are beyond our individual control. The observations in this book about the correlations between the quality of working relationships between collaborative in complex endeavors doubtless generalize well beyond medicine - Hofer Gittel started with airlines after all - but health professionals should take this book to heart. The delivery of healthcare is a highly complex process that is considered an industry, from the business perspective; and a service, by many of the disciplines (medicine, nursing, allied health, etc. Healthcare delivery is highly complex and can only be addressed when we consider both the business and the service aspects simultaneously. Jody Hoffer-Gittell presents research on this complex process from the system perspective and addresses the structures (high performance work practices), the processes (relational coordination) and the outcomes (quality efficiency and satisfaction).Delivery of health care delivery is high stakes (in human and economic terms), and with changing demographics (guaranteed increase in people needing healthcare) and the ongoing economic changes, it is approaching a crisis state. Everyday we read commentary on the Affordable Care Act and opinions on future directions. Most of these opinions are emotional and political with little basis in science.Gittel's work is based on science and addresses all aspects of the healthcare (structure, processes & outcomes). I practice and teach nursing in a university and a large health system and study health care system change. We have few comprehensive models to assess and improve health care. Gittel's work can guide health care mangers (looking at the business side), practice leaders (looking at the service aspect) researchers/educators (expanding our knowledge), with a solid scientific framework. Using this model, we evaluate and improve our healthcare system, based on system science rather than emotion or politics. I recommend this book for all leaders trying to improve healthcare.

I became aware of Professor Gittell from the groundbreaking work that she undertook in the airline industry. Her current focus on healthcare is a natural offshoot of that earlier work. As she points out again and again, the comparisons between the two industries are striking including "the complexity of the underlying work, the functional specialization and expertise required delivering high quality outcomes, the coordination challenges...the increasing cost pressures... and competing worker interests". Her analysis highlights the paradox that relational coordination is lowest for physicians in spite of their central role in delivering patient care; this paradox is not sustainable. Physicians must emerge as champions of relational coordination, working with enlightened senior leaders to implement a high performance work system as defined by Professor Gittell. The challenge, of course, is implementation.

"High Performance Healthcare" charts how health organizations can transform to meet rising access and accountability challenges. Relational coordination is introduced as a process-level solution that can help overcome system fragmentation and catalyze each step: from building clinical and administrative leadership; to applying quality, efficiency and coordination measures; to assuring critical review and sustainable performance.As one who has served in and advised medical centers on the East Coast and in the Midwest, I believe Dr. Gittell's arguments on the power of relationships in health systems resonate. I think forward-thinking hospitals and health systems will appreciate her organizational tools for communication and change.

Changing an environment is not easy, but using the tools and case studies provided within the book, Gittell guides the reader through a step by step process for moving from the "status quo" to building and sustaining a high performance organization.

My nephew loves this book! He carries it with him everywhere. I wish that it was available as a hardcover as it's all torn up now, although it doesn't keep him from looking and reading it. Highly recommend.

The author, Mary Kay Carson, has a number of successful books in her "For Kids" series. One very engaging volume is The Wright Brothers for Kids: How They Invented the Airplane, 21 Activities Exploring the Science and History of Flight (For Kids series). Another, which has some content in common with this new volume, is Exploring the Solar System: A History with 22 Activities (For Kids series). Both of those books are described as aimed at 9 year olds, or fourth graders. While the content can be challenging, that seems about right, especially given the subjects, (airplanes, planets), and the types of activities proposed, (build a kite or glider, map out planet orbits)."Beyond the Solar System" seems to me to be on a slightly different plane. We start with prehistoric views of the cosmos, move through the early Greeks, and then bring astronomy all the way up to the present with discussions of dark matter, dark energy, mapping of cosmic background microwave radiation, and the like. This is a huge undertaking, and in the effort to provide both breadth and depth the book vacillates between being overly simplified in some parts and fairly technical elsewhere. (For example, the second activity consists of using paper plates to construct a demonstration of Ptolemy's system of epicycles within deferents, which Ptolemy used to explain why the Earth was the center of the universe. This established the basis for Ptolemy's incorrect explanation for why Mars moves in retrograde. I could be wrong, but that seems a little beyond what most 9 year olds would want to make.) In that same impulse of inclusiveness, there is so much historical background that we are actually more than one-third of the way through the book before we even get to the 1900's.This is fine by me. The writing is generally clear, the sidebars are interesting and well chosen. Biographical sketches of major contributors to the field touch on not only the usual suspects, (Einstein, Hubble, and so on), but also lesser know yet equally fascinating players. Discovery timelines are also interesting, and illustrations of difficult points are generally well done.I guess the point is that this is not your usual Golden Book version of galaxies and black holes. This is a book with substantial and sometimes demanding content. For a kid with some background and demonstrated interest this could be a great choice. For a younger reader for whom you want an interesting introduction to astronomy, this might be daunting or even discouraging. This really doesn't strike me as a one-size-fits-all type of book, and you might just want to be aware of that.Please note that I received a free advance ecopy of this book in exchange for a candid review.
